Opening The Word to Women Everywhere

The Paradox of Christianity

Posted by word4women on June 13, 2009

Let me learn by paradox
that the way down is the way up,
that to be low is to be high,
that the broken heart is the healed heart,
that the contrite spirit is the rejoicing spirit,
that the repenting soul is the victorious soul,
that to have nothing is to possess all,
that to bear the cross is to wear the crown,
that to give is to receive,
that the valley is the place of vision. From The Valley of Vision

For My thoughts are not your thoughts
Nor are your ways My ways, declares the Lord…. Isaiah 55:8

We need not understand the ways of the Lord, but must always seek His face and walk by His light…Are you ready to serve the Lord this day? No matter the costs?

The State of the Church Today?
“The cold hearted, half devoted, earthly minded
race of professing Christians are among the most
miserable beings on earth.
They make a compromise with the world, are
foremost in pleasure and in fashion, and are
undistinguished form the noisy, vain, and
trifling crowd.
Over their worldly mindedness, their niggardly
charities, and hollow professions, thousands
stumble into perdition!
They are . . . .
a disgrace to the Christian church,
a standing scandal upon religion,
a grief to the pious,
a laughing stock to the world.”

Does this ever speak to the state of the church in 2009 United States…. Such a shame we could not go back to the good old days of the 18th and 19th Century when The Scriptures were respected, and Churches watchful of their membership… Oh “Happy Days” ….NOT
The above words were written by J.B. Waterbury as advice to Young Christians in ….the early 19th Century…. Whenever you are tempted to wax eloquently about the Righteousness of days gone by…. Read this and once again resolve to seek God and not the World.

  1. The 19th century was in a cespit of enlightenment thought.
If you really want to disprove romanticisations of the past you should read Gildas or something :p

Seems like a very interesting individual. I will look into him more in the future. Thanks for the suggestion.
